朱立倫之後回應，他是國民黨新生代，和上一代國民黨淵源不深；蔡英文和親民黨總統候選人宋楚瑜卻有很深的淵源。1999年前總統李登輝提出「兩國論」時，蔡英文擔任國家安全會議諮詢委員，是原始倡議者。
